Counsel, Immediate Office of the Secretary

Katie Mills is currently Counsel for the Immediate Office of the Secretary at the Department of Interior, a position she has held since February 2018.

Mills attended North Carolina State University, where she majored in Zoology, continued on to get her Masters of Science in Agriculture Extension Education, and then attended their law school. In the summer of 2012, Mills was a legislative intern for the Majority Leader of the North Carolina General Assembly, Senator Harry Brown. For the summer of 2013 (May-August), she was a summer legal intern for the North Carolina Attorney General’s Office in the Department of Transportation first and then for North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Paul Newby. From May 2014-August 2015, Mills was a Legal Intern for the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources. From August 2015 to July 2017, Mills worked at the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, starting as a Law Clerk and eventually becoming the Assistant General Counsel.

In 2016, Katie Mills gave $100 to Pat McCrory’s gubernatorial campaign, and in 2007, gave a $25 in-kind contribution to Fayetteville Republican Women.

Katie Mills has been involved in pageantry since 2010 and kept an active blog when she was Miss Greater Sampson in 2010.
