Associate Deputy Secretary

Kiel Weaver is the Associate Deputy Secretary. He was previously Interior’s principal deputy assistant secretary for water and science. In that role, he assisted the Assistant Secretary for Water and Science, who is “responsible for overseeing the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR).”

Weaver previously worked as a lobbyist and as a Republican congressional staffer. Prior to joining DOI, Weaver worked as the Republican Staff Director for the House Water, Power and Ocean Subcommittee. Prior to working in the House, Weaver was a lobbyist and Vice President of Morgan Meguire, LLC, from 1999-2003,  where he lobbied for Shell Oil and numerous other energy companies.

Weaver, Then An Employee Of The Republican Led House Natural Resources Committee (HNRC), Had Dinner With Westlands Water District Officials And Soon-To-Be Deputy Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt After The 2016 Presidential Election

Johnny Amaral, Deputy General Manager of External Affairs at Westlands Water District, emailed David Bernhardt on November 13, 2016 to ask David Bernhardt to have somebody on his staff make reservations for seven for “Dinner with Kiel Weaver” the following Monday night. Bernhardt replied, suggesting the restaurant Oceanaire.

According to documents obtained by Campaign for Accountability, Westlands officials also had dinner Kiel Weaver in April 2017 on the eve of a meeting with then-Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.
